Delete your AtChoir account

This page explains how to delete your AtChoir account and what happens to your information when you do. AtChoir is published by SJL Consulting (Pty) Ltd, registration 2019/210092/07, 14 Leonor, Dundas Street, Strand, 7140, South Africa.

Deleting your account from inside the app

Open AtChoir and sign in.

Go to Account, then Delete account.

Enter your password to confirm it is you, and confirm. You are signed out on every device, and the request is carried out straight away.

We do not require you to email us first, and we do not put an offer or a discount in your way.

What deleting actually does

Your person record is removed. That means your display name, your email address, your voice part if you set one, your role, and your device sessions.

Your account can no longer sign in. Nobody can sign in as you, and you are removed from your choir's member list.

Your chat messages are not removed. A conversation belongs to the choir the same way its attendance record does, so every message you sent stays exactly as it was, with your name replaced by "Former member" — the same treatment your attendance history gets.

This is not reversible. If you rejoin the choir later, your director adds you again as a new member.

What your choir keeps, and why

Your choir keeps its own attendance history, in de-identified form. The record that you were present at a given rehearsal stays with the choir as a count, with no name and no email address attached to it.

This is deliberate. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, each choir is the responsible party for its members' personal information, and SJL Consulting is its operator. Attendance is the choir's record of its own rehearsals, kept for its own governance and reporting. It does not belong to any one member, and one member leaving does not erase the choir's history of who turned up on a Tuesday night. What we remove is the link between that history and you.

Your choir's director cannot see your deleted person record either. Once it is gone, it is gone for everyone.

What is retained, for how long, and why

Very little is retained, and none of it identifies you inside the app.

What AtChoir never held in the first place

AtChoir does not store your date of birth, your age, or any flag saying whether you are a minor. It never asks. The app is built to the standard a child deserves, applied to everyone, so it does not need to know.

Production data is stored under EU jurisdiction. There is no African region available for this datastore, so the EU was chosen deliberately as an adequate destination for a cross-border transfer under section 72 of POPIA.

If you can no longer sign in

If you have lost access to your account and cannot use the in-app route, ask us in writing.

Email info@sjl-consulting.co.za with the subject line Delete my AtChoir account, and tell us the name of your choir and the email address the account uses.

We reply from a person, not an automated system, and we may ask one question to confirm that the account is yours before we act. We will not ask for a password or a copy of an identity document. We aim to acknowledge within two business days and to complete the deletion within 30 days of confirming your identity.

If you would rather your director did it, they can remove you from the choir. That ends your access. A full deletion of your person record is still yours to ask for, by the routes above.

Questions about your information

Your choir is the responsible party for your personal information in AtChoir. Start with your director for anything about your own record.

SJL Consulting acts as the choir's operator, and is the responsible party only for billing and its own telemetry. For anything we hold, or if your choir cannot help, write to info@sjl-consulting.co.za or to SJL Consulting (Pty) Ltd, 14 Leonor, Dundas Street, Strand, 7140, South Africa.
